I have a small overnight bag always packed with the essentials — toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, shampoo, deodorant, even nail polish, file, etc. If I decide to go somewhere, I just need to throw in a change of clothes and I’m ready to go!

I am a stay at home mom of two. Especially in this economy, extras can’t really be gotten. So a huge treat for hubby and I is shipping the kids off the grandmas for the night, renting a movie, and getting take out pizza or chinese. We camp it out right on the floor and eat out of the boxes. (Neither can be done with two little ones That way there’s no dishes. After the movie, we pull out backgammon, or something that’s not chutes and ladders. It’s almost as if you were back in high school, no real worries, or major concerns. It’s sounds silly, but it’s a huge stress relief to just enjoy the night and feel young again, on very little money!

My favorite pampering or relaxing thing to do in the summer is to get into the canoe and find the ‘Loons’. Their call is the most relaxing sound around. I can’t wait to hear them call to me!

My favorite cheap treat is a hike with a good lunch (smoked salmon with cheese on an everything bagel plus pineapple chunks on the side) then a long, long nap in the sunlight. It’s the ancient rhythm of hunt-eat-sleep. Very refreshing on a primitive level.

Pamper – what’s that?!(lol) When I get the chance to do something for myself, I treasure it. My husband is deceased, so mostly, I like to get a ton of scented candles, unplug my phone, get a giant cheeseburger, a chocolate chip mocha latte from Starbucks and ANY movie with Jason Statham(Transporter) or Daniel Craig(Casino Royale/Quantum of the Solace). My son, who is grown can’t understand why I keep watching these movies over and over again. I just respond-”you wouldn’t understand” (lol)

In the summer I rock gently on my little glider on the back porch, screened by two flower boxes full of yellow marigolds and red geraniums. I tuck my feet up, sip an iced latte and fall into a sweet romance. Although soaking up sun like a cat is the best part of a cool morning warm afternoons call for the addition of the lovely large umbrella that shades my napping body.

I have tea. I get out my lovely white tea pot with tea cozy, a china tea cup, saucer and silver spoon. I put cream (ok, oxymoronic no fat 1/2 & 1/2) in a little gold cream pitcher of my mother’s. I make wonderful rich tea in the tea pot, place it all on the table and sit down with my book. I read, pour my tea into my delicate china cup and enjoy some time that is a little less expensive than going to the Ritz.

I definitely have to live on a beer budget. I do book reviews to reduce how much money I spend on books, {since I read way way too much}.

I save money by cooking as many meals as possible and sharing them so that I do not have to pay for all the ingredients myself. I am a carnival worker and eating fast food or on the lot is not only expensive, but it is also tiring. There are 3 of us that usually go in together on food. It ends up that we feed 5 to 7 people on what it would cost usually for 1 or 2 people to eat out.

I pamper myself with a massage about twice in a work season. I usually get the longer massage since in the end it is cheaper than several short ones. When possible I have a friend work on my back for me between massages.

I also {from time to time} like to have my nails done. I do get acrylics cause they last a lot longer than say just a manicure. At least the nail polish does. I can usually go 3 or 4 weeks between fills. Instead of having to have a manicure every week cause the paint has chipped.

I have three daughters so of course, they would clean the house and do the laundry. We love doing each others nails so we would do each others manicures and pedicures. My daughter does hair so she could do mine!
